Really…? – El Comercio [Spanish]– Aug 27, 2013

Truth?    There are human ecologies that are healthy and those that are toxic . We need the truth about the water we drink , but also the truth about society and history, and even more so on the integrity of politicians and scholars who seek to lead it.

Really? … is the reaction when we heard a tasty gossip , or when we want certainty to decide on something that interests us. We all want to achieve something in our actions, and for that they need to rely on ‘truths’. Really? … my favorite accessory is on sale? … that this joint serves a very good and cheap burrito?… that my debit card still has a balance I can use? Every day claims thousands of truths on which I decide and live.

In the lofty academic and literary universe, the ‘truth’ is another. The hegemonic intellectual elite, so called liberal left, has made its fortune by denying that truth exists, and stating (sic ) that all truth is relative and morals and principles as well. It has ridiculed the desire for certainty and virtue, and the claim that there is a human nature and a common morality. They say that reality is fluid and self constructed in the never ending search for identity, and that every truth claim is violence of those who construct narratives to gain or maintain power.

That is why it is tragicomic that those who have lived of the relativistic yarn (narrative) to gain the power that allowed them to control the CVR ( Commission for Truth and Reconciliation), now intend to impose a narrative of truth, and of their own Moral Integrity to strengthen an ideological framing, renaming terrorism as internal strife and silencing everything that does not fit their ‘narrative’. Because they know that less enlightened mortals do care for Truth. In these last days, that to the many existing testimonies that contradict the report of the CVR, others have been added, we know that there has been no reconciliation because there was no truth on which to build it.

Truly, we cannot expect Truth from those who have made a profession to deny and diminish its existence. It is fashionable to be relativistic, but it is an ornamental fashion that is not fit to live by. The engineer knows that if he does not respect the truth of the materials with which he works, the bridge falls. To the CPA the accounts add up or not, and any ‘fluidness’ is fraud. What is truth to the material realities, also holds for the human, and the truth about our recent history is something that we are still owed.
